Pigeon Town Steppers & TBC - On Broadway (Easter 2015)

The Pigeon Town Steppers annual Easter Parade is always a highlight on the parade calendar. It is one of the only parades that rolls way way Uptown in the Carrollton, Hollygrove, Oak St. and Leonidas neighborhoods, otherwise unfamiliar territory for most Sunday parades. Rebirth Brass Band band leader and sousaphone player Phil Frazier's partner is affiliated with the Club, and when Rebirth still rolled second line parades, they would play this parade every year. This year, the Club had TBC brass band and Da Truth brass band play their two divisions, two of the hottest bands on the street today. In this clip, TBC drops an arrangement of "On Broadway" while rolling down Broadway St. towards Claiborne. I've never heard a brass band cover this one, and it makes me wonder if they learned it just for this gig. Check out the lime and lavender pastel easter egg colors the Club was rocking for the holiday. Thanks to the Club and bands for another amazing Easter Sunday celebration!

Young Men Olympian's 128th Anniversary 2012 Parade with Rebirth

This video is from the Young Men Olympian's 128th anniversary parade in September 2012. This Club always has one of my favorite annual second lines, and they usually have multiple divisions with several different brass bands that can stretch for a half mile across the route. You can read a bit about the Club's history here.  This particular video is of Rebirth Brass Band, although you will notice the double sousaphone (rarer at their club gigs) and that Phil Frazier is walking around in front of the band without his sousaphone on towards the end of the video. You'll also notice Mason right in front of the band.  He's a member of the club that can often be seen breaking it down at Sunday parades,  always ready to holla with a smile on his face.  He formerly did business with our office mail room before taking on a recurring part as one of Davis' friends on HBO's Treme.  Love it or hate it, that show definitely had some REAL people, not just actors...
